RENT was playing at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. My wife and I attended a performance Saturday afternoon, after viewing the Renoir exhibition at the Museum of Art.
We didn't see the play, exactly. We did listen to it over the sound system as we manned a table for the National Marfan Foundation. As members, we distributed information and helped collect money that will go for further research and education on the disease.
Marfan syndrome, a disorder of the body's connective tissue, tragically claimed the life of playwright, Jonathan Larson, before his play RENT opened on Broadway; I say "tragically" because he was misdiagnosed at two emergency rooms, and died alone at home, ten days before his 36th birthday. So we were glad to help raise funds for the Foundation, that others might benefit from his misfortune.
